IFC Recruitment

Register for IFC Recruitment

The Interfraternity Council (IFC) at UT is composed of 21 active men’s fraternities. The IFC community is over 150 years old and is proud of its strong tradition of having quality men’s fraternities. Many of the IFC fraternities receive annual awards from their national or international organizations for being among the best in the nation with their programming, academics, philanthropy, and leadership development.

The mission of the IFC is to develop men who lead with integrity, encourage a high level of scholarship, support the development of each chapter, promote a sense of community, and strive to set a standard of excellence for us and others at UT.

  • Fall Recruitment is a formal recruitment. Registered potential new members (PNMs) will spend a week getting to know every chapter in the Interfraternity Community. Throughout the week at the beginning of the semester, you will spend time with the chapters you want to get to know more about. At the end of the week, formal bids will be given out. All active chapters participate in this recruitment.
  • Spring Recruitment is an informal, or less structured, style of recruitment. Registration is still required, but not all chapters will participate. Similarly to fall, there will be an IFC sponsored week of activities at the beginning of the semester, but there will be an extended period of time after the sponsored events where PNMs and chapters will have the ability to get to know each other outside of recruitment events. Each chapter sets their own bid day.
  • 365 Recruitment is on-going. Every chapter in the IFC believes in continuous recruitment throughout the year. Chapters can take 1-2 classes a semester or 1-4 classes of new members a year. This means that chapters can recruit new members throughout the semester without someone going through fall or spring recruitment. Not all chapters will extend bids throughout the year, but a majority of chapters will create relationships with PNMs before they sign up for recruitment. Relationship building is the best way to determine which chapter is the best fit for someone going through recruitment.

IFC operates on a yearly recruitment schedule, so opportunities focus on Spring and Fall recruitments hosted by IFC for all chapters. Informal recruitment takes place after bid day and before finals each semester and is something that each individual chapters chooses to do.

Bids can be distributed starting on Bid Day and continuing through out the semester; however, any new member given a bid during the semester must have adequate time to complete a new member program and initiation within that same semester. Bids cannot be distributed or promised after classes end until the next IFC sponsored Bid Day.
