Greek Leadership Course (ELPS350)

Each spring semester, members at every level of leadership from all of our Councils join together to focus on developing their skills in the context of the sorority and fraternity experience. Now, more than ever, we need solid leadership to guide our organization and our community.

The course is worth 2 credit hours, is part of the University Leadership minor, and can also be used as a general elective. An additional 1-credit is optional for interested students!

Instructor approval is required, and space is limited.

What Do Past Students Say About the Course?

“As a current chapter president, this class was a great and much needed weekly break from being a president and being able to be another person in the class. I was able to spread knowledge, learn from others, and really see the community from a lot of different perspectives.” Ben Silberman (Spring 2024), Pi Kappa Alpha

“Other people should take this class because I think it REALLY benefits students starting their Greek leadership journey or those who are currently in leadership. There’s a lot to learn, and it prepares you really well for both collegiate leadership as well as life skills needed in the workplace. Plus, the instructors are pretty awesome.” Nila Manickavasagam (Spring 2024), Sigma Sigma Rho Sorority, Inc.

“My biggest takeaway was the amount of impactful discussion we had in class. Each week was always different, and I felt like we were always building on something new. I think the most important thing for me was being able to better understand not only who I am as a leader but also seeing how others have different ways of leading and that they can use their strengths differently to apply themselves whether that is as an individual, in a leadership role, or as a mentor.” Shayne Gandy (Spring 2024), Kappa Kappa Gamma

“I made so many new friends because of this class and I am forever grateful for it! I grew as a person, a friend, and a member of Greek Life. This class truly changed my perspective on Greek Life has a whole!” Hayley Emison (Spring 2024), Phi Mu

“I enjoyed meeting people from different councils and organizations to collaborate as a sort of family. You should sign up if you truly believe that you want to make a difference on campus. You can learn so much about what it takes to be vulnerable and facing the challenges of what it takes to be a leader not just in Greek life but in your overall life.” Carlo Caccamisi (Spring 2024), Phi Sigma Kappa

“My biggest takeaway from the class was how my chapter’s ritual can impact my leadership style.” Ava Fahrenholz (Spring 2023), Alpha Delta Pi

“You don’t need an official title in your chapter to be a leader. This class taught me how to be that leader without a title and how to use relationships and my actions to achieve something for the greater good.” Malachai Dansinger (Spring 2023), Phi Gamma Delta

“My biggest takeaway was how much I learned about myself during this class! I was really able to break down how I lead and what values mean the most the me while I was in my first semester as a chapter president.” Sophia Brechtel (Spring 2023), Alpha Chi Omega

“There are many people in Greek life that care a great deal about their particular chapter, and I found that very cool. That’s not something you get to see from others very often unless it’s someone in your own chapter. Seeing other people’s dedication to their chapters was awesome.” Cole Hubbard (Spring 2023), Phi Gamma Delta

“Coming out of this class, I actually feel like a strong and competent leader who can make changes in my community. This class has been one of my biggest blessings and one of my top 3 experiences of college so far. I quite literally would not be who am I today without taking this class and I’m grateful every day that I did. I’ve learned so much about myself and words will never do justice how much I loved this class.” Mia Plankey (Spring 2023), Delta Delta Delta

“Everyone brings something different to the table, and you have to figure that out if you want to be a good, effective leader. Finding what your members are passionate about and understanding that everyone finds different value in different aspects of this community. This is not something that I would have ever thought about if it weren’t for this class, and I think that it has changed the way that I view my leadership roles in the community and especially within my Chapter.” Auden Van Laeken (Spring 2023), Pi Kappa Phi

“Taking this class as a sophomore paved the way that I have viewed leadership within the Greek community for the rest of my time in college. Before the Greek Leadership course, I had never experienced such an impactful level of collaboration and conversation around the unique intricacies of Greek leadership. This class truly sets a foundation for student leaders to insight positive change and impact the culture of our campus community.” Amara Pappas (Spring 2022), Alpha Omicron Pi

“ELPS350 is a great starting point for anyone looking to take a leadership role in Greek life or in general. The class applies concepts to real world scenarios to build you up uniquely to the point where you feel empowered to lead any group of people. As someone who has put what I learned into practice, I highly recommend it for anyone who has interest in leading their chapter, council, or organization.” Maxwell C. Benoit (Spring 2022), Sigma Nu
