Five members were awarded scholarships established for TN Kappa SAE members, totaling over $13,000 for the fall and springs semesters. Those recipients were Phillip Newsom and Owen Martin (Harris M. Harton Memorial Scholarship), Charlie Lindeman (McAfee Lee Memorial Scholarship, and Rives Moore and Fisher Morton (Brooks, Ledgerwood, Testerman, Memorial Scholarship). These scholarships were established in the 1970’s and 1980’s and were last used in 2010, so the chapter is very pleased to have been able to rediscover them and distribute them to their members.
SAE also hosted the first annual Eminent Funk Fall Music Festival in the Old City Courtyard, where the Kenny Heard Band, Common Creation, and Three Star Revival played in the rain for over 3 hours. All proceeds went towards establishing the Ryan Edwards Memorial Scholarship, which is named after the former President of SAE who tragically passed away on March 27, 2012. Over 3,000 tickets were sold and they plan on starting a campaign to raise $25,000 to establish the scholarship.
